Happy tails 2011
12/28/11 Mac & Marco
These boys were Quincy rescues. Mom Maureen and sibs Merrily, Melody & Marley came up first. Their person died and they were rounded up and taken to animal control. Sadly, these little boys weren't initially found and came up a week later. Smaller and more needy, I kept them separate. I will always remember Christmas Eve w/the little boys paws thru the crate on my desk helping me view holiday videos. They certainly grew up to be sweet guys and well adjusted to their frequent trips to Michigan. They will "retire" there in the future.
12/28/11 Penny's Puppies...
Just thought I'd share this cute photo of two of Penny's ten pups. They are six weeks old now. It would have been a shame if the vet had gone ahead and aborted these little ones when the owner asked. They are all very good pups, and very fortunate you were able to help!

12/27/11 Jane
In January 2011, an email came through with a picture of a scared 4 month old puppy named Jane, along with a plea for a rescue group to help her. Jane was neglected and left tied to a shed and had developed demodex mange.
My wife, Zip, easily convinced me to agree to foster Jane, as long as a rescue group stepped forward to sponsor her. We had just spent a miserable year getting over the loss of our 15-year-old lab, and needed some energy in the house.
A million thanks for K9 Lifeline Rescue for stepping forward to sponsor Jane; it turns out that Jane would never meet anyone from the rescue group, as we soon couldn't bear to let her go. Jane turned out to be the best-behaved, well mannered, sweetest puppy we ever fostered.
A year later, we both are so extremely happy with the good dog Jane has turned out to be. Here are a couple before and after photos to show how a dog can thrive after being rescued. We can't thank the Quincy K-9 Connection enough!

12/25/11 Jack
Jack was adopted into a wonderful home after being at the rescue for less than two weeks. Before Jack was adopted, he was sponsored by an amazing little girl named Ellie who has a heart of gold.
Jack was a wonderful, friendly, and playful fellow and we are sure he is very happy in his new home!

12/24/11 Bobbi
A happy kitty from Quincy that was adopted!
12/22/11 Beulah
This little girl found herself homeless after her owner passed away. She was SO terrified and so scared - her eyeballs were bulging she had so much fear in her....AND LOOK AT HER NOW!! Truly a Blessing to see the smile and her eyes are full of life. WOW!
She really looks like she's smiling, doesn't she?

12/14/11 Jewel & Tyler
Another happy ending for two Quincy a/c rescue foster cats who have found a home just in time for the holiday season!
Norma, the kitties' new mom, is very happy to see the two cats she chose blossom into the loving, happy pair they were meant to be.

12/7/11 Max
This update is long overdue, 2 years in fact. Thought you ladies would enjoy some good news in your inbox. About 2 years ago, we adopted Max (Saturn) and he turned our world upside down! His energy was off the charts and he was such a curious little pittie (IE-into everything), but his eyes were so full of life, and his heart was so full of love that it was absolutely impossible not to become enchanted by him.
He has been living the good life ever since. Max (and our other dog) Minnie are best friends and they are, quite possibly, the epitome, of ying and yang. He is uber outgoing and social. She is very shy and timid. Since he's been with us though, Minnie, our other rescue, has made strides in socialization and is not terrified of people anymore. In fact, she relies on him for her cue to be "ok" with someone. People continuously comment on how much her demeanor has changed. Max is continuously helping her and he has been wonderful.
Most of his "street behaviors" have been eliminated, minus the scavenging for food. This pup ate everything, inanimate objects included. In fact, 6 weeks after we got him, he ate a rope toy that actually caused him to go into life saving surgery (1 1/2 feet of his intestine actually had to be removed), but he recovered like the champ that he is, and is perfect. Needless to say, we no longer have rope toys in the house....only Big Mean Kitty toys which hold up for at least 6 months...record time for him! His eating of inanimate objects stopped about a year ago, so now he isn't even in a crate anymore during the day. He has free access to the house, which for him means the bed and the couch.
He is, admittedly, spoiled rotten. He has a jacket and a sweater (which I swore I would never do), but he gets cold on our walks in the winter, and he's much happier with it on. Every night, my husband literally tucks Max into his dog bed, then, as his paws are raised in the air, pulls a blanket up over him. Now that the embarrassing admissions are over...he excelled in all the classes he's taken, and his favorite was probably agility. I don't know if you were ever able to witness the agility on this dog. I've never seen anything like it, and have been with/around dogs my whole life. This guy can stand on his hind legs, then jump, like a kangaroo, a couple feet in the air. He's such a clown. (did I mention that he will do anything for a food treat...you'd think we were starving the dog). Although in the last few weeks, a new behavior has emerged, actually chewing his food. I'm not sure what switch flipped in his head, but all of a sudden, he is taking the time to chew his food as opposed to swallowing all of it in 30 seconds!
He does wonders for the pit bull breed. The worst you get from him is a couple of licks, and, if you're on the couch, a serious invasion of personal space. ha! He only reaches a comfort level of 10 when he is able to wedge himself between Eric and I on our small couch...and we love it. When we go out into the community with him, he is great with people and other dogs, and that is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to peoples (mis)conceptions about them.
Max is an amazing dog. We don't even like to think about the other paths he could have gone down. He has completely enriched our lives beyond words, gave new life to our other dog, and solidifies a place in people's hearts soon after they meet him. After a rough initial period, we couldn't imagine a life without this pittie.

12/07/11 Hermione
Hermione, our last minute add on last week's transport. Looks like her Christmas wish came early this year!!!
12/05/11 Dylan
Dear Warden, Either you or someone at the shelter was kind enough to contact the rescue group "Tails of Hope" in September 2009 to help save the life of our lab mix tripod named Dylan. I cannot tell you how much this dog means to us. He came into our lives at a very bleak time and got us through a very rough period. He is about the sweetest dog I have ever met and brings us continued joy every day. Thank you for saving the lives that you can. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Hi Anne - I personally want to thank you for your help with Dylan. I am sure you must have realized how special he is just as we learned quickly when we adopted him in January 2010 from Tales of Hope rescue. Dylan is famous in our neighborhood - everyone knows him! And everyone who meets him loves him too. I could never thank you enough! Please continue your very hard and worthwhile work knowing how much we truly appreciate it! A very happy holiday season to you both and thank you, thank you, thank you!
Dylan has really had a 180 experience from how he lived at the shelter. He gets to sit/sleep on the good couch (our last dog was not allowed), he goes to daycare one afternoon a week and to the dog park every weekend and day off that I have (rain, shine or snow). He is so sweet and deserves every bit of spoiling he gets. I always think how awful it would have been to put him through the pain of losing his leg just to end up losing his life due to bad circumstances. I love all dogs, but I have to say there is something extra special about Dylan and I know we were matched with him due to some angels above and on earth (you!)

11/30/11 Sadie's Puppies
A very pregnant aussie named Sadie gave birth to seven healthy pups in her foster home! All but three pups already have a home!
11/28/11 UPDATE - Daisy's Babies!!
The puppies are doing good!! My nieces came over to play with them and took a few pics. The pups are all beige or whatever that is called...buff? with the exception of one white puppy with beige spots.
11/28/11 Jethro
I just thought that you might enjoy seeing how Jethro is settling in here in Minnesota: He truly is a beautiful boy and my sister (who drove me to Millwaukee, WI to pick him up) has fallen in love with him and is trying to convince her husband to let her adopt him! The feeling seems to be mutual (although I doubt that Jethro has ever met a person he didn't love!)
He is settling in beautifully and I'm conducting personality testing and evaluation on him. I suspect it won't take Jethro long to find his forever home! Thank you so much for helping to make this happen. I also want to mention that I discovered another benefit of operating a canine rescue: all of the WONDERFUL people that I'm meeting! It is so uplifting to see all the caring and committed people who are selflessly giving of their time and/or money to help diserving dogs all across this country! Maybe our society isn't quite as bad as I was thinking it was...

11/23/11 Tika & Babies!
Safe delivery for Tika the Min Pin just barely three days in her foster home after transport!
K9 Lifeline received a very special Thanksgiving blessing this morning when one of the rescue’s dogs, Tika, gave birth to SEVEN beautiful puppies!
A very heartfelt thank you to our volunteer, Shannon, for staying up since 3:00 this morning to assist Tika with her delivery and ensure her and the pups were healthy and safe. Thank you for agreeing to take Tika in and for fostering her and her giant litter! I hope you get some much deserved rest this evening!

11/06/11 Molly
Wanted to let you know that Molly the Wire Fox Terrier is safe and sound here with me and she is doing very well. She is an absolute little doll and will make a Forever Home very happy. The paperwork, care and veterinary services given Molly and the pleasure of working with a well run and friendly Humane Society has made this experience flawless. Thank you for working with Wire Fox Terrier Rescue Midwest and your dedication to the animals.
Anne - deeply grateful for adding Molly on today's transport run. As usual, it was organized spot on and worked smoothly for all the animals heading to their new destinations. Not a small feat - thank you so much. Please contact me any time with any future Wire Fox Terriers in need. We also work closely with Airedale Rescue and have taken in Welsh Terriers, Irish Terriers and Lakeland Terriers as well.

11/03/11 Maggie - now Sunshine
She is doing well here at home... Our daughter Bryn, is quite taken with her and asked to re-name her, as we already have a Maddie Mae. So Maggie is now "Sunshine", named after one of the football players in the movie "Remember the Titans".
She will be spoiled, as I truly believe that our dogs pick us and it is our job to make them happy as long as they are with us! As I type, she is between Bryn and I, completely zoned out!! Thank you!!

The kitties from Quincy who recently went to their forever homes!
10/14/11 Kisha, Scout & Maddie
Good morning Anne. Thought you’d like to see Kisha in her new comfy couch. Kisha was adopted from Quincy and came up on the Saturday transport by my friend, Karen a little over a year ago. She’s a very happy girl!
These three all came from you. From left to right, Kisha, Scout, Maddie. They are all good friends, and as you can see love swimming on their Sunday morning run at the quarry. Maddie was a skinny little puppy last time you saw her.

10/12/11 Boxers! Boxers! Boxers!
Tyson is at Kelley's until Sunday morning... then I get to meet him and drive him up to Kankakee to meet May's transport to MN. He is going to a WONDERFUL foster-to-adopt home...we are very excited to get him there. Kelley took him to the vet yesterday and said he was just perfect...he has hookworms but is HW negative...YAY! He weighed in at 64 lbs...I am sure Kelley will pack a few more pounds on him before Sunday. By the way, his new dad will be calling him Quincy :)
T-Rex is now named Clooney (yes, after George...LOL). He is just AWESOME! I have attached a pic of him and me from when I dropped him off in Kankakee for May's run and a pic of him with his new family in MN. They are also doing the foster-to-adopt option...but I don't think it will take them long to decide they are keeping him :)
I don't know if you remember O'Doyle and Wiley but I got to see both of them a few weeks ago when I went to Minnesota for the rescue's Boxer Walk & Wigglefest. They were both adopted immediately and are doing GREAT...I attached pics of them from the walk :)
Thank you so much for always sending us the most amazing Boxers!!

9/21/11 Daisy aka Boogie
Here is a picture of her to show you she's doing good. Just ignore the cut ...and the rawhides, toys and paper on the floor :)
Besides that, she is the BEST dog!! Did you meet her before she came here? She is so sweet and such a good girl. I think this is the first dog I've taken that didn't have other issues like fear or shyness and she's a breath of fresh air. Baxter the shih tzu liked her right away so they sleep together and it's already helping to bring him out of his shell. He doesn't especially appreciate it when she runs and jumps on his back though. haha. I have a vet appointment for her tomorrow. I had one scheduled for today but I got stuck on a work call and missed it. She does have swollen mammary glands. Did they give you any idea of when she would have been in contact with the cocker spaniel? Her nails were very long and she had a few mats so it doesn't seem like they cared for her well. Poor girl. She'll have love from now on. BTW, I changed her name to Daisy. She just didn't look like a Boogie to me. I'll keep you posted.

9/20/11 More on Orphan Annie!
Know it's been awhile since I sent any pictures, so I thought I'd share some good ones. The longer Annie is with us, the more impressed I am by her amazing personality. She was SO good this weekend at my parents' lake cottage... was more than happy to stay right with us without a leash, hung out on the dock and helped Neil fish, and was great with my 6 month old nephew (who loved her!).
She was so good we'll overlook the little clearing of a few beverages with her over-exhuberant tail during cocktail hour incident.... but other than that, she's perfect. Thanks again for giving this great dog a chance! We're so glad to have her!
Annie is also a certified therapy dog now and is a huge part of our pet therapy program working with the developmentally disabled and hospice . She is absolutely GOLD of a dog inside and out.

9/20/11 Doc aka Luke
I'm sorry I didn't get these pictures to you sooner. Doc is doing well. I'm not sure the last time you saw a picture of him, but he's really filled out. I think it's coming up on the year anniversary since you saved him. We're sure glad you did. We took these pictures this Summer in the front yard. Grace's first journal entry when she went back to school this year was about Doc. Thanks again for all you did to rescue him.
9/19/11 Phineas aka Bing
I just wanted to say thank you ever so much once again for your tremendous help with Bing. His adoptive mom followed up with me regarding his vet, and we have been in touch several times over the past few days. Bing made it safe and sound to her on transport today and they love him. You found an amazing and perfect family for him - the family of my dreams!!! If only every dog could hit the lottery like this. I don't know how you did it but all I can say is thanks.....you did an amazing job for a wonderful family and for an awesomely sweet and loving dog that was in desperate need of help. I'm so grateful and thanks again, on behalf of both Bing (now Phineas) and me. Take care - Amanda.
9/12/11 Cash
Just wanted to let you know that Cash is a fabulous dog! I think I already have a forever home- my sister! The transport was great and on time. I look forward to working with you again!
Snoozing with my slippers! :)

9/6/11 Maggie May
Left- Maggie in her new forever home!!
Below: Maggie in her previous home. 7 weeks after having a planned litter of puppies, the previous owner decided to keep a puppy and ditch poor skinny Maggie.
9/6 Update - Maggie May is home to stay! Please thank everyone for all their helping get Maggie safe, and up here…It’s a match made in heaven..and I am so glad she is here. They have taught her to sit before she goes outside..she is great on walks and there are a lot of dogs on the block that all walk together..once she is on her feet, she will join all of them at the dog park too…
9/19 Update - Maggie is adjusting very well…went to the vet and got all her vaccines this past week..waiting about 4 more weeks to spay her…she is putting on weight and is a great listener.
I saw her last weekend, and she was doing so good. They love her endlessly and take her everywhere!!! Birthday party last weekend….Pretty girl!
1/09/12 Update - Had a chance to hang with Maggie over the holidays..she is amazing…she is at least 60lbs now…all the color has come back to her white patches, which wear either bare or grey.. Her tail is full and she is so loved, and in love with her new family, I smile just thinking about it. Her stomach is much fuller so her lady business is tighter and not hanging as low. She is great with other dogs at the dog park, and stayed with friends for an overnite, (they will only have a sitter for her, no leaving her at the kennel) and they had 2 small dogs, and they all got along great.

8/29/11 Sydney
Sydney after the groomer. What a wonderful dog!!!! She is sweet, gentle and is adjusting very well to her new family. I would SO have taken her in myself!!!! She goes to the vet on Tuesday, eating well, sleeps well in her crate. She was in the house for less than an hour and was already sleeping on the couch!! She had a long day!! She went to the sons football game, met a whole bunch of people and was just generally a really good dog!!! The girl holding the leash is the 16 year old daughter who wanted NOTHING to do with a dog, funny how that changed!!! Thank you both!!!!
08/09/11 Nikki
Remember Nikki..... the senior HW+ shaved dog with the BB or bullet holes in her? Well, she looks a so much better and healthier now :)
7/26/11 Billy

Here he is with his new mom, KIM (and her friend Dave, and my dog, Mr Wilson, yellow lab is butting in too).... Kim brought her three children to meet Quincy three days ago.. it was love at first sight. New Mom Kim will most likely snuggle with Quincy at night (boyfriend lives in Peoria) and her daughter will dress Quincy up like BARBIE every chance she gets. The two twin 5 year old boys? Who knows.. but i'm sure they will keep this dog running. Kim also has a Main Coon (sp?) cat, declawed thank god, and that rounds up the christmas card photo that i think you and i will really enjoy. Hey, nobody understands these big crocodile tears that are pouring down my cheeks more than you... i fell in love with this boy, and i miss him. I'm happy for him... most especially because as i write this note to you, Kim is sending me photos of him inspecting his new back yard. I think i can write, with confindence, that as you read this email, you are shedding a tear, or two, as well.... You took a chance on "fred" and you were right. He is a really great dog.
4/18/11 Lacey
Just wanted you to know. Lacey went to a great new home with another dog and a few kids on Friday. What an absolute sweetheart. I just fell in love with her sweet personality. The new family just loved her too.
4/12/11 Bo
Bo is great! He ran around all Friday night & was totally pooped Saturday & barely moved! But yesterday he was getting familiar with everything & likes being petted & getting attention. He got a much needed bath yesterday! Haha He is getting along great with my boxer. We wonder why he is so bowlegged? Do you have any ideas? He doesn't seem 2 run much either, just walks or hobbles. But so far he seems 2 be doin well!
3/21/11 Orphan Annie
Do you guys remember Orphan Annie the Golden beagle/Shep Mix ? She is being adopted by our veterinarian and her family. She has 2 older Brittany Spaniels and 2 young wonderful boys ages 4 and 2. They have a beautiful large home with a huge all fenced in back yard. Annie sleeps in the arms of her new 4 yr old big brother, Jack. I am sending a couple of pics of the two of them together. I assure you all that this dog will never want for anything. She is a special girl and now she has a very special family.Thank you for all of your help in getting her here and giving her this chance.
3/16/11 Geezer
My 13yr old son had him running yesterday so when Riley was out there again today I decided to catch Geezer in action. When he is not sleeping on the couch, he is outside. When he is not outside, he is sleeping on the couch. Ah, a day in the life of Geezer! His eye looks really good!
2/28/11 Haus
Anne, attached is a photo of Haus, now called Louis Winthrop III.Hallie and I thought you would love to see how he fit in to his family. He does not look too spoiled now, does he? He was wonderful on the ride to his new mom's. What a little lover. Thank you so much for all you do.
2/11/11 Tasha
Remeber Tasha, this is why you do what you do, and I do what I do. Tissue alert !! She was always one of my favorites.
1/15/11 Qwincy
Wanted to share a couple pictures of Qwincy. He was kind of restless last night when we went to bed but he finally settled in on his new bed and slept well. He spent the morning trying to figure out wood and tile floors and steps. He seems to be gaining some confidence walking on the "unknown materials"....LOL
We took him to Petco, trying to find a treat he will eat. No such luck :( He did eat his food three times yesterday and once today so far. And he sure loves to walk! Our friend Jena stopped by last night to meet Qwincy, he seemed to like her. Tonight he gets to meet Alex (Jena's dog) at the park. Alex and Gunnar were great buddies, so hopefully Qwincy will like Alex too! It appears we may have found a great place to bring him for training.
