Happy tails 2017
Louise
Quincy K-9 Connection transported the super friendly, gorgeous Louise to her new organization, K9s for Veterans, on December 2. This pretty baby went from unwanted stray to invaluable service dog of US Army Veteran Anthony. We are incredibly excited and happy for Louise. She had a calling and now she gets to live it. Woohoo Louise!!
Mac & Marco
Their story is one of everlasting love. This duo was found in an abandoned house in 2008, as tiny kittens. From the beginning, it was very clear how bonded the brothers had become. Quincy K-9 Connection transported them to safety where they were nursed to good health and subsequently adopted together by an awesome couple.
In 2014 Mac was diagnosed with renal failure. With the special, loving care of his humans, Paul & Cathy, he survived an incredible 3 additional years. Just this past week, however, Mac's condition had deteriorated to the point where he was too tired and sick to continue. His eyes showed he was ready to leave. Through their tears, Paul & Cathy bravely arranged for Mac to take his final rest in their home where he was surrounded by those who loved him most. He is at peace.
As for Marco, he is doing okay, learning what it's like to be king of his domain. He is helping Paul & Cathy adjust and they are doing the same for him. Together, they are thankful for the 8 wonderful years they had with Mac.
This is the kind of love and care Quincy K-9 Connection hopes for all the animals who cross our paths. The love between the brothers and between their humans is everlasting, even in death. We send our sincerest gratitude to Mac's and Marco's rescue organization and their adoptive humans, Paul & Cathy. We are happy to have played a role in this tale of everlasting love.
Lux
This sweet gal, Lux, was relinquished due to eviction. As an "extreme" senior (20-25 y/o per relinquishing owner), her future was very uncertain. Quincy
K-9 Connection wanted to give her a chance to live out the rest of her life. We successfully reached out to find her placement into a rescue organization. On November 4, Lux was transported to the loving arms of a Husky rescue. En route she captured the hearts of our transport volunteers who were filled with a deep sense of gratification, knowing how much her freedom ride meant. Later that same day we received word from her rescue which included these pictures. They too fell in love with sweet, sweet Lux. She will now live out her life with one of her rescue organization's foster homes where she'll always know how much she is loved.
Skipper
"When I came to The Buddy Foundation when they rescued me 2 years ago I was shy and afraid. There were so many new sounds and smells and people but I finally settled in. All the volunteers were so nice and I was given good food, a nice warm bed and belly rubs.I watched every day and saw other dogs who came after me being adopted and wondered why not me?? I'm a good boy!! After two long years somebody saw my picture on the Buddy website. I was wearing sunglasses in the picture and I have to admit I looked pretty cool. Nicole and her mom Kathy noticed my picture and they came to see me. It was love at first sight. I visited their house and I liked it!! They have nice beds for me to sleep on and the food was good. They even have a cat that I like. They came in today and made it official . I am adopted!! Life started out hard for me but I am looking forward to my new life being loved and snuggled. I am their good boy. My name is Skipper. I am finally HOME." -Skipper
We thank Skipper for this update, but want to make one correction: Skipper, you are a not a "good boy" ... you are a GREAT boy! Good job buddy!

Sid (fka Mr. Kitty)
Quincy K-9 Connection helped this handsome guy out quite some time ago. This is the message we received from his rescue organization this September:
"Here's our 'famous' fella ~ people still comment about him.
Attached are current pic . . just 2 bachelors living together. He waited over a yr . . for that special person who could love him for who he is. Know Jen in Quincy will have tears of joy again . . long journey for him . . he was relinquished by a guy . . so he finally found the guy who will never abandon him again . . Russell understands him . . he's 'his boy'. "
Chloe & Bella Chloe (12 y/o) & Bella (10 y/o) found themselves in search of a new home when their original owner moved into senior housing. Quincy K-9 Connection networked to find an exceptional rescue organization willing to accept the pair and subsequently transported them into the organization's care. We are happy to report that the bonded seniors have already charmed themselves into a new home, together. They now live with a nice pair of retired humans who had their own two dogs pass away within months of each other. All reports are that Chloe and Bella are doing awesome and loving the new laps they have to sit in. Good job cutie pies! |
Abby (fka Britney)
Quincy K-9 Connection transported 9 year old Britney to the safety of her breed-rescue in March. Britney was formerly used for breeding and lacked basic social skills. Consequently, her foster home worked very hard to build her confidence and to teach her the perks of "being a dog". We recently learned that Britney was adopted and now goes by the name Abby. She has another dog in her family (Bailey) to continue to teach her the ropes. Within the safety of her her forever family, Abby is continuing to conquer new things like boats, car rides, and doggie doors. She is doing well!! Way to go Abby!!
Penelope (fka Alano/Alana)
This is such an awesome update!! Quincy K-9 Connection transported Penelope (fka Alano/Alana) this past May. This is the rest of her story:
It is hard to tell Penelope's happy adoption tale without also telling Beaker's story.
We adopted Beaker from Houndsong Rescue on Dec. 16, 2016. When we brought him home, he was pretty much a feral dog (see first picture of his outside hiding spot). He was afraid of everything and did not trust humans at all. No matter what we tried, he would run from us if we approached or if we tried to pet him. I eventually asked my parents to bring their dog over and we discovered that while Beaker was afraid of people, he LOVED other dogs. So we began our search for a sibling for Beaker that could also serve as a mentor to teach him how to enjoy life as a loved and cherished member of the family pack.
We had a couple of meet and greets that just didn't seem to be the right fit (dogs weren't interested in playing and interacting with Beaker). Then in May, Roberta from Houndsong asked us if we could pick up a hound pup from the Quincy K9 transport in Springfield and hold the pup until the foster Mom was able to pick her up 4 hours later. We agreed and didn't even consider that such a young pup could be exactly what we (and Beaker) were needing. On May 13th, Kevin picked Alano up from Quincy K9 transport stop in Springfield, IL and brought her home and we let her run zoomies all around our fenced backyard for at least 30 minutes. We noticed Beaker looking out the window watching her run and play so we decided to see if he would be brave enough to join her out in the yard. At that time, it was very difficult to get Beaker to go outside to potty let alone to play due to his fear. But on that day, he surprised us as he willingly followed Alano out the door into the yard and began actually PLAYING! We knew within the first hour that Alano was meant to be a part of our family.
Since joining our pack, Alano - now named Penelope - and Beaker are best friends. Her confident, inquisitive and fearless temperament, which other families may find challenging, has been a perfect fit for our family and has been exactly what Beaker needed to help him gain confidence and become less afraid of the world. In 3 months, Penelope has taught Beaker that having a leash put on to go for a walk is fun, there are exciting things to smell and explore outside, how to play with toys and chew bones and antlers, that butt scratches feel good, and how to jump up on the couch and bed and get snuggles and love from us! From December 2016 to May 2017, we had never seen Beaker's tail wag. You can see both of their happiness in the youtube video (link below).
We love them both so much and are so grateful that Penelope came into our lives and has helped Beaker start to heal from whatever trauma he endured in his early life. She is like his guardian angel on earth.

John, Paul, George, Jagger, & Pearl
Quincy K-9 Connection transported these cutie pies to safety in mid-to-late June. We received this update from their receiving rescue organization at the beginning of July
"All the puppies have been adopted. What a sweet, healthy bunch they were and so very popular. We've never seen such a nice batch of applications come in on them as well. All went to homes that someone is home most of the time, fenced in yards and families that treat their dog as a member of the family. Jagger, the boy that came to us a week later, was so happy to be reunited with one of his brothers before they were both adopted. It was so much fun fostering these pups. And Pearl is doing really well in her new home, the family was so happy to get their girl!"

Goldie
Goldie was one of 5-dogs (about 8-years old) in which Quincy K-9 Connection transported to Golden rescue in March. Like the other dogs, Goldie needed some time to adjust and basically just learn to be a dog. Accordingly, Goldie spent some much needed foster time in a home in Madison with two other well-adjusted Golden Retrievers. We are delighted to report that at the end of June Goldie was adopted to a home in Sheboygan. Her forever family includes two Chihuahuas! You can see from the sweet smile on Goldie's face that she is doing well.
Lucy (fka Pearl)
Lucy was transported to Golden rescue in late June 2017 by Quincy K-9 Connection. Since then she has charmed herself into the hearts of her foster family who have decided that she will be staying with them.
Lucy quickly broke down the walls of her dog sister Libby (a 10 year old Pyrenees) and they are now forming a very nice bond and playing nicely. Her new family feels that Lucy is a real blessing for them. They have quickly grown to love her. It's pretty clear the feeling is mutual for Lucy who loves to cover them with kisses.
Gunner
Late April/Early May a bus driver called a local rescue lady about these 3 dogs that have been abandoned for at least 2 months. They were starving and kept coming up to a bus stop wanting the kids to pay attention to them....the local rescue called us since they didn't have any room. One of the dogs, Gunner, had a gun shot wound. We networked to find him a rescue organization and transported him to safety on 5.6.2017.
We are now happy to report that Gunner is once again filling out his frame and his wound is almost healed. We think these pictures of Gunner enjoying his home are priceless!!

Daisy
This is an update forwarded to us by a receiving rescue organization regarding an adorable golden retriever we transported:
"In January we adopted this young lady. Just a quick update, Daisy is doing well and loves her new family. I work from home, so she spends most of the day being my coworker. She loves it when we go outside and I throw the ball for her to retrieve. She also loves car rides. She does get along well with our male dog, but sometimes quarrels with our other female dog. Daisy doesn't like share her toys. We are working on that and it's getting better. We love having her. Thank you, WAAGR" -Greg (forever dad)

Junior Quincy K-9 Connection transported Junior to safety in May. At the time he had an injured eye. While in the safety of his receiving rescue organization, his badly damaged eye was removed. His stitches came out recently and he was subsequently adopted by the daughter of one of their volunteers. Good boy Junior! |
Sabrina
Poor 11 year old Sabrina was relegated to an outdoor kennel and dog house when her owner could no longer care for her. However, Sabrina's life got a whole lot better on 6/3 as she was transported into the arms of a caring foster home where she'll eventually become a permanent member.
Yay Sabrina!

Dobby
Quincy K-9 Connection transported the very handsome Dobby to safety on May 13th. Just 2 weeks later, we learned that he has found his forever home. This is what his receiving rescue organization had to say about this awesome boy, " ... He knows sit, down, shake, stay, no, come and can catch treats. We were surprised it took as long as it did for him to get adopted! He would lay quietly in his kennel with his paws crossed like a gentleman."
Best Wishes Dobby!

Tanner
Quincy K-9 Connection stepped in to help Tanner when he was hit by a car around the end of March. Sadly, no owner came forward. We networked with Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue who quickly accepted Tanner into their care. Throughout all his recovery, surgery and all, Tanner has remained a pure delight. Really? Have you ever seen such a happy dog?
We received word at the beginning of May that Tanner has been adopted. What a gorgeous family! Good job Tanner!
Abby (fka Lady)
Quincy K-9 Connection transported Abby (fka as Lady) to safety on 3/18/2017. I think we all fell in love with her adorable little face. To no one's surprise, she has captured the heart of her foster family. This is what her receiving rescue organization has to say,
"...Abby has the sweetest temperament you will ever see. She is being fostered by a family with young children. As you can see from the photos, she is so gentle with kids. Her foster family will be making Abby a permanent part of their family ... once we finish up her medical needs. We fondly refer to this as a "foster failure" and we couldn't be happier for both Abby and her foster family!"

Duncan (fka Rusty)
We received this update on Friday, 4/28/2017. Rusty was transported to safety on 4/1/2017. Pictures are truly worth a thousand words!
"Hello, I first saw Duncan on Underdog Railway Rescue FB page. It described his awesome temperament and how he was even good with Chihuahuas. I had to go see this precious boy at their event. Both of my pups love him and they play together so well. We officially adopted him tonight and he will be loved the rest of his life! Thank you so much for saving this sweet baby!"
Teddy & Charlie
This is a cool 'Happily Ever After' that actually began last year. Mr. Teddy and Miss Charlie were taken to a shelter when their elderly owner fell and broke his hip and had to go to a nursing home. Teddy and Charlie came to Quincy K-9 Connection and were subsequently transported to safety. Not only were they adopted together, they are the now the VERY loved mascots of an Assisted Living Program.
This is what Miss Charlie's fans say about her, "Little Miss Charlie is doing amazingly well, as always. She pretty much rules the roost, as you'd expect, and everyone loves her. I can't send any photos that include residents, but she for sure has her favorites. She has a favorite couch snuggle buddy. At breakfast she has a favorite bacon buddy! In fact, her breakfast pal is a newer resident, and loves the dogs. When she first moved in her language abilities had degraded pretty significantly, and whole words were difficult. Since she's been here, though, she's been getting much better, and the first whole sentence I heard her say was right after she'd given Charlie a piece of bacon, and Charlie zipped out of the dining room with her prize. This resident watched with a huge smile on her face and said "I think I may have giver her too big a piece!" It was a wonderful moment!"
This is what Teddy's fans have to say about him, "Mr. Teddy is also doing OK .... Our Business Office Manager takes him home at night so he can have much needed peace and quiet, and then brings him back in the morning. Then he and Charlie run around like goofballs, and have some snuggles. I always try to get pictures of them zooming around, but honestly they are too fast, and I am too slow. He also still takes his victory lap after taking care of his outside business, but he is definitely slowing down a bit. Our Business Office Manager has four older daughters, and when he is there he is carried up and down every stair, and lifted onto every couch. Apparently he is the most pampered pooch, which, after all, is all he deserves!"

Alisha & Elle
We transported the bonded pair, Alisha and Elle, to safety on 3/18/2017. Just one week later, we learned they were adopted out together! We send a huge thank you to the rescue organization who opened their arms to this pair and another big thank you to this wonderful family for keeping these two cuddle bugs together.
Abby
Abby was surrendered to us in October 2016 - with a huge growth on her chest. We had our vet look to see if it could be removed. She had been like that for a LONG time and we didn't know but she could not even lay her head normal when sleeping so we had to take a chance. The surgery was done and Jane (Beagle Rescue) took her in. Well needless to say...she is laying on her memory foam bed. She goes up and down stairs, has her own Kuranda bed in their bedroom and "will stand and stare any dog down that lays on it"! Ha! Looks like Abby is another foster failure...think she will be staying with Jane!

Chevy
After Chevy's teenage owner passed away tragically, Quincy K-9 Connection networked to heal Chevy's broken heart. We transported him to his incredible rescue organization on 2/18/2017. Just under a month later we received word from them that Chevy has found his new soul mate in Daryl (from Southern Wisconsin). Chevy is now living on 43 acres with 6 lakes with Daryl (who is now retired). Chevy even got to meet some wild turkeys (on leash, of course!).
Ironically, Daryl too was heartbroken after recently losing his 2nd heeler. Today, however, Chevy and Daryl are smiling again as they heal each other's heart.

Harley
This handsome 5 y/o guy, Harley, had his own private transport on 2/25/2017. Soon after he arrived to his receiving rescue organization, we received word stating that he was settling in nicely with one of their foster homes and would be prepared for adoption soon. Harley is a total charmer, loves to give kisses and would be content to be a lap dog ... if only he was a little smaller.
Be a good boy Harley! Your forever family, whenever they come along, is going to be SOOO happy with you.
Walt
We all fell in love with this smiley guy, Walt, during the last week of February. Transported to safety on 2/25/2017, we quickly received new pictures and kind words from his receiving rescue organization expressing what a "... beautiful, gentle, SWEET dog he is." We agree! We couldn't be happier to have helped Walt with his new and promising start. Good boy Walt!! |
